Hello Dear Friends, colleagues and supporters
Kat here just giving you an update from my first race running for England in the Danish Half Marathon today.
I WON!!!
Absolutely thrilled to win and to do it representing England a very proud moment for me and another special moment to treasure, need to bank those.....
The race was great, held in Middlefart in Denmark, very beautiful place by the sea and where Lego was invented.
Still being an inexperienced racer when the gun went off I shot of with the men and held on for about 1km, had a thought awesome I am going to run this race with the men and my lungs then told my brain that this was a bloody stupid idea. The course was up and down with a few cheeky hills, cold here and the wind was blowing but not too hard. I ran alone for around 7 to 8km and then the Danish favourite caught me up and drafted me for the next 8 iish km, this is fine with me I am happier controlling the pace and she thanked me after the race for taking the wind so I was really appreciative of her good sportwomenship. I then pushed on a bit and when I reached 20km I looked back and could not see the pretty Danish lady anymore, so I thought oh I am going to treasure this moment on the straight which I did to the cheering crowds and the commentator speaking loudly in Danish which I could not make out a word apart from Kat Grimmett. What I did not know was the Dane was sprinting head down behind me thank god I crossed that line before she caught me, just awesome. I did 74.08 mins for the time and apparently it is not a PB course and running alone on the windIi am very very pleased with the time.
Prize money from this race and last weekend will be banked and will enable me to lessen a days work a week down to two days a week in September so that I can concentrate on moving to the gruelling racing of womens marathon. Fingers crossed my employee will support me and they have so far so I am truly grateful for this and hope to do the UK Police proud.
I won the race wearing the brooks T6 race shoe and reckon they helped me run with speedy feet, awesome shoes and felt really light. Thank you Martin for your support from Brooks.
My belly was full of powerbar nutrition so a thank you to Jon for your support to me also.
I hope you are all well and thank you again for your support towards me as a person and athlete, I bank the kind and supportive gestures and comments which helps me stay positive.....
Lots of Love and Much Happiness
Kat Grimmett
